20 years ago today...

I would't have necessarily imagined this:

What is it, you ask? This, is my latte that I spilled in the car while taking the kids to the bus stop. I was that desparate for the caffeine. It got into the window controls, etc. Sigh.

So, 20 years ago today, Sean and I had our first date. I was 16. I was a cheap date.( not that kind of cheap) We went to Roy Rogers, and then to the movies. My friend worked at the movie theater we went to, so we got in for free. After that date, I was convinced I would marry him. I told him that. He vehemently denied that it would happen. We married 7 years later, October 15, 1994, after he finished college, after a few bumps in our road, etc.

Many times over these years, I always wondered what things would be like 20 years to the date from Oct. 6, 1988. Why? I don't know. So far, I've had a spilled latte, and a day that will be filled with statistics studying, as I have a HUGE exam tomorrow. Throw in piles of laundry, 2 kids, blah blah blah, you get the picture. Sean is away in Europe. He's been there for over a week, and doesn't come back for a few more days. I'm not hopeful he'll remember today. In fact, I'm fairly convinced he won't remember. Kind of a bummer.

However, being the kind of person I am, I do like to find the humor in all things. Even this. So, let's play a game for my anniversary!

First, please participate in my poll. The question is, will he remember or not? The poll appears at the top of the page.

Second, in the comments section, wish me a happy dating anniversary. Humor, quips, silly little poems, and anything that will make me smile are encouraged. Be creative! At the end of today, I'll put all commenter's names in a drawing, and will draw a winner. Winner gets an anniversary gift from ME. If you live geographically near me, we'll go out and whoop it up. If not, I'll send you something fab. We'll celebrate Debland style, for sure. Let's make this a memorable anniversary!!

Who's in? This is gonna be fun.

Happy dating anniversary!

I don't much do anniversaries and the only reason I know our "dating anniversary" is because it was the day after my husband's 31st birthday.

How weird! I remember the date of our first date, too. I thought I was alone in my weirdness. Have a happy happy date anniversary. I voted, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that he remembers!

Aww...thanks girls!

Update: my friend Jen just brought me a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch for my anniversary. Rock on Jen! I told her that totally enters her into the contest.

We met through mutual friends at a happy hour. It was May 26 and his bday is May 25. He told me he was 30 years old. I remember thinking how sad it was that he was at a bar with just he and his loser friend celebrating a milestone bday!

Flash forward 1 year- he told me he was 32! He had lied about his age and forgot- I didn't believe him- he had to show me his driver's license!

In essence, our whole reltaionship was built on lies! NICE!

Don't cry over spilt latte nor hold your breath for him to recall.
'Tis better to be happy with memory true
Remembering that night of youth one fall.
And let it bring a smile to you!

first of all, happy dating anniversary! My brother is still in Philly, so maybe one day we can whoop it up when I'm in the neighborhood, so to speak.

And second, I think there should be some middle ground in your poll to reflect that while it may not be in the forefront of his mind, he may not forget it either.

My husband is more like to remember the date of our first date, than I am.

Happy Anniversary. Sean might remember, but he won't think to call. They don't mean to be insensitive, it just come naturally(just kidding) Have a nice anniversary. Have your girlfriends take you out. Love you, your sister Lisa

Don't know that it makes you feel any better, but I know very few men who can remember their wedding anniversary, let alone the anniversary of their first date. That being said, Happy Date Day! :) Buy yourself a new latte (Pumpkin Spice is my personal fave) and something sparkly (even if it's only a container of window cleaners!).

Happy first date anniversary! How romantic can one get looking at a stuffed Trigger? Is this the Roy Roger museum in Victorville? If so, that's my old neighborhood!)

I'm sentimental enough to remember what he was wearing, what he smelled like, what his car smelled like, what we ate, on our first date. Hope Sean remembers yours!

I should explain. Roy Rogers was a fast food restaurant back in the day.

Funny you should mention those things like smell, etc. I remember what he smelled like, that I ate salad bar, and that I was positively starving the whole night, but didn't want to seem like a pig!

Well, what I want to know is, if he's in Europe, why aren't you with him? You could've turned his business trip into an anniversary trip! Kids, schmids.

Happy Anniversary! :)

Hello! I'm a part of the SSS - so I'm stopping by to say Hi! My handle is Kristin in the SSS. Original, huh? lol

My husband and I celebrate our first date. He can never remember our wedding anniversary but we do always celebrate the first date. Just a few years ago my husband had a liver transplant. It just so happened that it happened on our first date anniversary. Dec 23rd. Our second date was New Years Eve - so we celebrate that, too lol

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers that first date!
